Mission

To advance the physical, mental, and social well-being of New Orleanians by providing safe and welcoming environments for recreational, athletic, and cultural experiences.

Vision

A sustainable and innovative organization that transforms lives.

Something for Everyone

The New Orleans Recreation Development (NORD) Commission offers programs, events, and facilities for residents of all ages. From youth athletics and after-school programs to arts, fitness, and senior activities, NORD creates opportunities for the whole community to engage, learn, and have fun.

Our Story

In 2010, voters approved a City Council ordinance to reform NORD, creating the NORD Commission comprised of 13 community leaders appointed by the Mayor. The ordinance also established the NORD Foundation, a nonprofit fundraising organization supported by board members representing the City’s leading businesses.

We are rebuilding NORD into an organization the city can be proud of. Join us, participate in programs, and experience all that NORD has to offer.
