NORD Teens

“For Te​ens. By Teens.”

NORD Teens are doing BIG things, and we want you. If you are 13 to 17 years old and live in Orleans Parish, this is the place to be! NORD Future Leaders provides diverse academic, professional and enrichment-based programming throughout the year. While our NORD Future Leaders program is shaping future leaders, we’re having fun along the way with free recreational events including dances, pool parties, annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball, and Global Youth Service Day.

Meetings are generally held on the second Saturday of every month. All teen programming is free and open to Orleans Parish teens, ages 13-17.

Teen Council

The NORD Teen Council is a year-long enrichment-based curriculum aimed towards empowering teens through event planning, character development and monthly recreation opportunities. Additionally, these promising youth earn service hours through teen-oriented social action and community service projects.

Fall meeting dates: Every 2nd Saturday beginning August 12, 2023.
Meeting Duration: 3 hours; starting at 11am-1pm

Teen Intership Program

NORD's Teen Internship Program! Teens ages 13 - 17 can earn money while exploring careers and entrepreneurship, obtaining job skills and/or receiving academic support. All participants must join NORD's Teen Council, attend upcoming teen events, and complete at least one community service project during the program.  Registration required.  Space is limited.

The Teen Internship is a 6-week period.  Open to teens ages 13-17 years.  Flexible work schedule from Monday-Saturday.  

  • Schedule are 2 to 3 days a week up to 36 hours total hours.
  • Locations – operating indoor pools, 2 tennis courts,  Eastbank and Westbank Recreation Centers.

Check out some internship descriptions below. 

Entrepreneurship Program: Interns learn how to establish and operate a business as well as assist with Rec Center operation as needed.

 

Pre-Junior Lifeguard Training: Interns learn what it takes to become a lifeguard and will receive a solid foundation of knowledge and skills that will prepare for the Junior Lifeguard Program.

 

 

Fitness/Rec Center Support:  Interns assist patrons within fitness centers who may not understand how to operate machinery and keep the fitness equipment clean. Interns are required to report any issues or conditions to the Rec Center manager.

 

Tennis Center Support:Interns learn tennis court operations and participate in Junior Tennis Pro, or trainings teaching youth how to play tennis.

 

 

 

Athletics Support:  Interns are trained to assist Athletic staff at games and events. Duties include:

  • Field and court setup and break down
  • Scoreboard keeping
  • Scoreboard operation
  • Team and player check-in
  • Concession stand assistance
  • Other relevant duties assigned

 

Teen Career Camp

The Teen Career Camps offer local teenagers ages 13-15 career exploration and job preparation skills as well as financial literacy training and character development. Breakfast, lunch and field trips are provided. Limited spots are available.  

NORD Future Leaders

The NOLA Future Leaders Program is an innovative leadership development program offered by NORD.  Designed to prepare future leaders for post-high school success in both college and the workplace, this program focuses on skills development and early career exploration for young adults from schools across the city. The ambitious curriculum exposes future leaders to qualities of successful business and community leaders and addresses topics such as public speaking, fine dining etiquette, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness and career pathways.  

NOLA FUTURE LEADERS applicant requirements:

1. Completed application
2. A current report card
3. One letter of recommendation  (Must be unrelated adult mentor)
4. 500 word essay on "Why you would like to become a NOLA Future Leader?"
5. Be prepared for an entrance interview

Teen Centers

Teen Centers are a fun and safe place where teens from local communities can socialize and have positive interactions with peers.  

Teen center locations:

Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 4-8 pm.

Teen Council Special Events

Teen Council events are designed for teens and by teens. Events offer all teens a great way to have fun in a good manner. Events are free and open to New Orleans residents ages 13-17 unless otherwise noted. Refer to our calendar to keep up with upcoming events. 

Annual Masqerade Ball 

All Orleans Parish teens, ages 13-17, are invited to celebrate a happy and safe Mardi Gras with members of the NORD Teen Council. Event features music led by a local DJ, a photo booth, food, a special musical guest and election of a Teen Council Mardi Gras Court. Formal attire is required.
