NORDC Teens are doing BIG things, and we want you. If you are 12 to 17 years old and live in Orleans Parish, this is the place to be! NORDC Teens provides diverse academic, professional and enrichment-based programming throughout the year. While our CFL program is shaping future leaders and our JA Company Program is training future entrepreneurs, we’re having fun along the way with free recreational events including dances, pool parties, our City-wide Talent Show, the 3rd Annual Mardi Gras Masquerade Ball, our signature Intro to Golf Program and Global Youth Service Day.
Meetings are generally held on the second Saturday of every month at Gernon Brown Rec Center. All teen programming is free and open to Orleans Parish teens, ages 12-17.

The NORDC Teen Council is a year-long enrichment-based curriculum aimed towards empowering teens through event planning, character development and monthly recreation opportunities. Additionally, these promising youth earn service hours through teen-oriented social action and community service projects. Meetings are held every 2nd Saturday of the month from 12:00pm to 3:30pm at Gernon Brown Rec Center.
Chevron Future Leaders
The Chevron Future Leaders Program is an innovative leadership development program offered by NORDC and supported by Chevron. Designed to prepare future leaders for post-high school success in both college and the workplace, this program focuses on skills development and early career exploration for young adults from schools across the city. The ambitious curriculum exposes future leaders to qualities of successful business and community leaders and addresses topics such as public speaking, fine dining etiquette, entrepreneurship, environmental awareness and career pathways.
CFL applicant requirements:
- A report card
- Two letters of recommendation
- A 250 word essay on “Leadership”
- At least a 2.5 GPA or greater

Teen Centers are a fun and safe place where teens from local communities can socialize and have positive interactions with peers.
Teen center locations:
Hours of operation are Monday - Friday, 4-8 pm.
Intro to Golf Program
Hosted in conjunction with the Joe Bartholomew Golf Course and First Tee GNO, this ten-week program will introduce the sport and etiquette of golf. Sessions are course playing opportunities for teens that focuses on promoting fundamental golf skills, including full swing, putting and chipping. The program aims to promote life skills & leadership through the game of golf. No prior experience is required and all equipment is provided. Sessions take place at the Joe Bartholomew Golf Course (6514 Congress Dr., New Orleans, LA 70126).
JA Company Program
This exciting program will provide a relevant and authentic learning experience for young people that continues the strong entrepreneurial workforce in our community. Teens will be assembled, provided with professional entrepreneurial curriculum (supplied by Junior Achievement) and undergo the complete business process, from incorporation to liquidation, with the opportunity to earn real money!!! This program will be hosted at our five NORDC Teen Centers within the city. Space is limited.
City Hall Council
In conjunction with representatives from a host of City Departments, this new program will focus on civic engagement, providing service-based activities for the youth of the City. Infinity Education Alliance NOLA
Teens will explore mathematical terms and ideas through the building of models. These sessions couple foundational math skills with geometry, science, and technology.
1881 Vex Robotics
1881 Vex Robotics is the flagship apprenticeship program of the 1881 Research Institute, leading students to lucrative fields in engineering and science. Boys and girls, ages 12-17. Free.
Girls mentoring program focusing on confidence building. Runaway classes, fashion, makeup lessons, photo shoots, and more. Girls, ages 13-18. $10/week or $30/month fee required. Tuition assistance is available based on income guidelines.
A mentoring and empowerment group for girls ages 7-17. Girls meet twice a month to enhance their social and life skills. Bonding is achieved through skill building, positive peer interactions, and community service. $60 one-time fee required. Payment installment plan available.
Institute for Women and Ethnic Studies (IWES)
A teen pregnancy prevention program that addresses self-esteem issues, goal setting, stress, and coping skills and empowers teens to make healthy and informed decisions. Boys and girls, ages 14–17.
Teen Council Special Events
Teen Council events are designed for teens and by teens. Events offer all teens a great way to have fun in a good manner. Events are free and open to New Orleans residents ages 12-17 unless otherwise noted. Refer to our calendar to keep up with upcoming events.
Annual Masqerade Ball
All Orleans Parish teens, ages 12-17, are invited to celebrate a happy and safe Mardi Gras with members of the NORDC Teen Council. Event features music led by a local DJ, a photo booth, food, a special musical guest and election of a Teen Council Mardi Gras Court. Formal attire is required.
Every month teens gather for a fun night of music provided by a local DJ, dancing, and open mic performances. Concessions are sold. Security is onsite to insure safety.
Family Bike Ride
Teens are invited to bring out their friends and family for a day of outdoor exercise, biking, and fun. Event generally includes discounted bike rentals, group stretching exercise and overview of safety rules, and a bike ride through the neighborhood.
Annual Give and Live Bike Ride
Celebrate Global Youth Service Day with a fun and smooth bike ride, health fair, and entertainment. This City-wide event is open to all ages.
