Black History Essay and Coloring Contest

Enter NORD’s Essay Contest by researching and writing an essay about the life, accomplishments, and positive contributions of an African American present day or historical figure.

Submit essays to nordcyouth@nola.gov by 11:59 PM on Feb 9. Essay contest winners will be announced on Feb 19 at the Black History Month: Symposium and Art Gallery at the Sanchez Multi-Service Center. Ages 9–12

ACS Kids Zone: Exploring Our World Through Chemistry

A free science outreach event that will provide families the chance to conduct hands-on activities in the ACS Kids Zone, get goodie bags with ACS’s children’s publication, Celebrating Chemistry, learn more about community partners, and celebrate 15 years of the Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) campaign with the theme “Dive Into Marine Chemistry.” No registration necessary. Join NORD Commission and ACS rain or shine.

 

Daddy Daughter Spring Fling

Dads and daughters come enjoy an evening of fun. Dine and dance the evening away at the Daddy Daughter Spring Fling.

Global Youth Service Day & Family Bike Ride

Time to give back! Join NORD Teens as we celebrate Global Youth Service Day and collect food and clothing donations for those in need as we host a family bike ride with music, fun, and games. Donations can be turned in on the day of the event.

Jazz Day

Connect with music and community in the heart of New Orleans. Come enjoy a Jazz concert in celebration of International Jazz Day in the birth place of Jazz! Jazz is recognized internationally as a medium to develop and increase intercultural exchanges and understanding.

Movies in the Park

Movies in the Park is a seasonal program that features family-friendly, free outdoor movie screenings at NORD playgrounds for residents across the City. Residents are encouraged to arrive early to visit with family and friends and participate in fun fitness activities with Fit NOLA Parks instructors. Movies in the Park is free and open to the public. Movie goers are welcome to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnics. View our Rain Policy

STEM Saturdays

The purpose of STEM NOLA is to expose, inspire and engage the community in the opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).  Each month the inventors and innovators of tomorrow work with STEM professionals and college students at a workshop that offers hands-on experiences with STEM experiments at NORD rec centers. For details and registration information, click here.

Easter Eggstravaganza

Family-friendly Easter egg hunts at select NORD parks. Meet the Easter Bunny, and find eggs filled with candy and prizes. Event also features face painting, space walks and field games.

Annual Family Fun Walk

Step out for a family-friendly morning walk with breaks of fun activities. This 2.2 mile walk around Ponchartrain Park features activities including hula hooping, jump rope, sack race, basketball, tennis, golf and baseball.

Back to School Fall Expo

Get information about all NORDC programming including: fitness, Teen Council, athletics, special events, and more. Event features on site program registration, dental screenings, and school supply giveaways from NORD, and partnering organizations all at no cost. Children must accompany parents to get school supplies.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration

A celebration held during National Hispanic Heritage Month which recognizes Hispanic heritage through a community festival featuring music, food, and art. 

National Park and Recreation Month

Every July NORD celebrates Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) that highlights and all the ways parks and recreation has the power to transform our daily lives. From providing places to get fit and stay healthy to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, a close-to-home community park and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve quality of life.

Halloween Spooktacular 

Fun and safe Halloween activities at NORD rec centers. Rec centers will have candy, a costume contest, carnival games, prizes, and more! Free and open to the public. Festivities kick off with  "THRILLER" flash mob in front of New Orleans City Hall.
